The Sounds of Saturday

Ahhh…yes, Saturday morning, it’s my fave morning of the week. I know, newsflash it’s the fave morning of the week for many people for obvious reasons. It’s the weekend, a little later start to the day, hopefully no work on the agenda, it’s just a different feel.

This morning as I sat outside and had my chat with Father, I looked at the beautiful blue sky and listened. Little children were outside, and I heard a few pups in the distance barking, next door, light conversation on the patio with I’m assuming coffee in hand. I could just feel myself relax. I wasn’t feeling rushed to write this little blog and get out the door to the gym, all while running through my work to-do list in my head.

I think it’s important to recognize these moments and to allow ourselves to experience them, and more importantly to be ok with experiencing them. It’s easy, especially when you have commitments, work, school, volunteering, etc., to feel guilty when you take a break. I’m not sure how we got there, maybe it’s because we are all “connected” to our commitments 24/7 with new technology. Personally, I think we should go back to having flip phones and using paper calendars! Ya, I know, I’m showing my age. Well, you get my point though, we are so connected digitally that our lives never get a chance to just slow down and step away.

Is it ok for us to give ourselves a break? I think so, and even more importantly I think God thinks so. Um…I think Father expects it. Remember, six days of work and the seventh REST. I don’t think that means only rest on the seventh day, that is just a minimum requirement.

Friends, we are all so busy, much of it by our own choosing. We need to take time to recognize that we are human and there will come a point when our bodies and minds require relaxation and rest. We need to be ok doing that. So, on this Saturday morning, I encourage you to take some time to plan rest, plan relaxation and don’t feel guilty about it.

Step away, and enjoy the sounds of Saturday. Have a good day friends and continued prayers for sweet Emily Rea’s return.

Matthew 11:28
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
