It’s our tagline for the Marco Patriots, #spreadthegood. When you are helping with disaster recovery, it’s a key part of the mission, spreading as much good as possible. Some people are at the lowest points of their lives, homes gone, loved ones missing or killed, memories swept away. Sometimes a hot meal and a clean shirt can make all the difference to a person who is broken.
Spreading the good takes little effort and doesn’t have to cost a dime. The silent touch of a hand, a smile or a simple, “It’s ok, you’re not alone” is sometimes all that is needed to make a difference.
As I mentioned in this little blog, yesterday was our large community thrift sale. Our Church Mouse thrift store does a big sale each fall and spring and yesterday was it. There were all kinds of items from clothes to housewares and baby items. A young family yesterday who spoke little English was able to purchase a brand new baby crib, complete with a mattress that was still in its original wrapping, and a vacuum cleaner for their home, for next to nothing. I think of that little family trying to make a better home for their children and the opportunity we gave them through this sale. In turn, their purchase of that crib and vacuum cleaner will be used to help other young families as we grant funds to charities in the community. Yes, that is spreading the good in so many ways.
Friends, in a world where things seem upside down some days, sometimes spreading the good isn’t at the forefront of our minds. Just remember that it doesn’t take much and the difference it can make is priceless.
As we go into Holy Week, let us remember the path that Jesus walked, all the while knowing how it would end. He gave His life for us to have eternal life with Him and the Father. Along the way, He spread the good wherever he went. He asks us to do the same.
Happy Palm Sunday friends, share a smile today π .
Romans 8:28
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
