I’ve been spending time with friends over the past few days. Last night, we wrapped up our time together with dinner and a sunset cruise. Our time together has been priceless, with memories shared and memories made.
After dinner, we boarded the boat for the cruise and headed to the top deck. As we left the dock and moved through the channel, I looked around at the beauty—yes, the physical beauty of our surroundings, the palm trees and the mangroves, the sand and surf, but also the beauty of family and friendship.
When the boat made its way into the gulf we all moved to the railing up front. The breeze was amazing, and the sun was like that red rubber ball we hear about. Father’s creations on full display in so many ways. In every direction as far as you could see, it was simply beautiful. I told my friends at one point, “I’m truly blessed to live in paradise”. It’s a common saying here in SW Florida, so much so, that I think we take it for granted.
I realized last night that I can watch that stunning sunset virtually every night. I work just five minutes from the beach, live only a few minutes more away, and yet, I usually find a reason not to stop and take it in. Why is that? There is always something more important, or I’m too tired, or I don’t want to mess with traffic, yes there is always some excuse. At the end of the day, it’s what I choose to do, it’s what I choose to prioritize.
This life is filled with gifts most of which cost us absolutely nothing. There was a priceless gift given to us by one, Jesus, and through that gift, He wants us to live. He wants us to experience all the beauty this life has to offer, and to share that beauty with others. The simple beauty of a sunset or sunrise, the beauty of a small child taking first steps, the beauty of the first snow of winter, it’s right in front of us, if we choose to stop and experience it.
Friends, this life is short, we’re called by Father to live it fully. Take the time to do just that. Choose to stop and experience the gifts that He has so graciously given. Take the time today to watch that sunrise or sunset, and give thanks for the simple gifts.
Have a good day my friends 🙂 .
