A Psalm for Mom

A friend of mine is in need of prayer. She is in the process of helping her sweet mom make her way home with Jesus. No matter how old we are, we are never ready to lose our mothers. Even though it is not goodbye forever, it is still so painful and there is a void that never seems to fill. Being there in the end though, even though painful, is a precious time, helping them through the last hours in this world as they walk with Jesus into the beauty of Heaven and life everlasting.

There is a phrase in our Book of Common Prayer that is said during the rite of burial, Through Jesus Christ our Lord; who rose victorious from the dead, and comforts us with the blessed hope of everlasting life. For to your faithful people, O Lord, life is changed, not ended; and when our mortal body lies in death, there is prepared for us a dwelling place eternal in the heavens.  This phrase reminds me as Jesus said just before He died, “Today you will be with me in paradise”.

This morning as I continue to lift prayers for my friend, her sweet mom, and her family, I share the 23rd Psalm. These are some of the most comforting words in the bible. May they help ease the pain of loss, yet provide the strength to see mom into eternity ❤ .

The Lord is my shepherd: I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for His name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.

Lord, please continue to provide comfort to your children in their loss. Ease the pain and fill our hearts with the love that only you can give. Help us to remember that we are not of this world and that one day we will all be with you in paradise. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
