Recently I’ve been having conversations with friends about various events in their lives. One was in the middle of a deal to open her own business. Another was planning a lengthy trip. In each case, my friends had plans and hopes around what they were working on. One to work for herself in an industry she loves, the other to take a trip of a lifetime. It’s what they wanted.
Well…sometimes what we want is not what Father wants. I think that happens a little more often than we’d like it to happen. A friend once told me, “Do you want to make God laugh, just tell Him your plans”. I think that is very true.
For both of my friends, they had issues come up in their plans. My entrepreneur friend, well the deal fell through and she was so upset. The time and energy she put into the process, all for nothing she felt. Her dreams of owning this business, gone. Well…again, Father had other ideas.
My friend texted me yesterday to let me know that the current owner of the business was closing it. The landlord, owner of the building, had sold the building and none of the leases were being renewed. Hmmm, perhaps Father was at work realizing this was not the best move for my friend. Her feelings yesterday were quite different, she breathed a sigh of relief that she was not facing the burden of a new business, but also having to find a place for it. Yes, what we want is not always what Father wants.
My friend who was planning the long trip, well some health issues arose, and she had to cancel. She too is breathing a sigh of relief because had she made the trip she would have been in a strange place with medical staff she didn’t know. Yes, again, what we want is not always what Father wants.
Friends, the Lord is in control. He is at work in our life. Give every decision to him. Ask Him if what we want to do is His will. Let Him guide the way and then maybe we’ll find that what we want is what He wants.
Have a good day my friends.
