Secretariat Lessons

Last night I watched the movie Secretariat. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. Of course, it’s a movie depicting the life of admittedly the greatest racehorse of our time. A triple crown winner that broke every record in the three races. He won the final race of the crown, the Preakness, by 2 1/2 lengths, in record time. Now that you know the specifics about this beautiful animal, Big Red as he was lovingly called, let me get on with this little blog.

As I watched the movie, even knowing how it ended, I felt myself cheering for this horse at every turn. I got teary-eyed and was smiling all at the same time. It was such a beautiful story with so many beautiful messages. The love of family, the commitment to doing what’s right, the drive to live life and finish the race. You could say all cliches but are they really? No, I think they are simple life lessons.

Jesus came to experience life as a human. To show that this life can indeed be lived without sin, loving our neighbors as ourselves, and working together to share the love of God. He knew how His life would end, He knew the ugliness he would face, the trials, the pain, yet, He lived it fully.

I think in a very interesting way, Jesus’ story was in that movie last night. I may be stretching things, but I know this, I walked away from that movie feeling so good. For whatever reason, I think Father put me in front of that story last night, and I’m glad He did.

Have a good day friends, and hey, maybe put the movie Secretariat on your list of movies for this weekend :-).
