The Lesser Light

Yesterday in this little blog I encouraged everyone to take a moment just to look up. Take in the sunrise or the sunset and enjoy the simple yet priceless gifts of this imagery.

Well, I didn’t realize that later in the day, well, last night, there would be an incredible moon rise. The last full moon of Spring, the Strawberry moon. Oh. My. Goodness. What a truly beautiful sight.

My husband and I came home from a wonderful dinner with friends from church. We gather during the summer months to support our local restaurants, we’ll save that for a little blog in the future. Anyway, we sat out on our lanai as the sun was setting. We were enjoying watching the pinks and the blues in the sky as we chatted. Before we knew it, the sun had set and we could see the huge bright moon rising through the trees. It really was something to see. Before long it had passed into some clouds so we headed inside to get ready for bed.

Again, little did I know that the beautiful rising of the moon was just the beginning of its show for the evening. This morning I saw the pictures captured by friends in its strawberry phase. Yes, it was a site to see for sure, but what makes my heart happy, is the number of people who just stopped and watched. The number of people who made their way outside to just enjoy the beauty of the “Lesser Light”. They didn’t sit inside watching TV, they went outside to enjoy the simple yet priceless beauty of Father’s creation.

I know, I know, I’m sounding like a broken record these days encouraging everyone to just go out and experience the beauty around us. Well, it’s free, it’s beautiful and it truly can make you feel better. I’d say those are a pretty good combination.

Friends, our Lord has given us these gifts to enjoy, let’s accept them humbly and do just that, enjoy them. Have a wonderful day friends.

Thanks to Tim Buscombe for the beautiful Heartland sunset, the cover of today’s little blog. Thanks as well to my granddaughter Dakota and friend DeDe for the beautiful Strawberry Moon pics from last night, below.

Genesis 1:16
And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars.
