The Little Towns

Yesterday a friend of mine posted a picture on social media. He is the owner of an event venue back in our hometown. The venue used to be a confectionery store back in the day. The building that it resided in was built in 1890, and that business opened in the building in 1898. It was an fun place to visit and their candy was awesome.

Back in the day our little town, I guess not so little, became the home to several well-known musical groups. REO Speedwagon is one of the most notable names coming out of our neck of the woods. Tonight there is a show at our old Assembly Hall, honoring the legacy of REO Speedwagon, the band was in town for it.

The album cover of one of their first albums was the band sitting at the old counter of that little confectionery back in the day. Oh my goodness they were so young. Well, a few days ago, the band reenacted that picture at that same little bar in the Venue. I saw it last night and was telling my husband all about it and the upcoming show.

The next thing I know, he’s pulled out that album cover, (he has them all you know), and put that album on the…you guessed it, on the record player we still have. To say that those old songs brought back memories, well, that would be an understatement. I thought about my childhood friends, and the times we would listen and sing along to those tunes.

I thought about a lot of things as I listened to that music. In the small town I grew up in, I was able to ride all over the town with friends. I thought about not having cell phones to distract us, being glued to the next notification coming in. Yes, they were simpler times with people being so much more connected.

It’s funny how just that one picture sparked so much last night. I’m thankful for the memories, thankful for the music, and thankful that Father brought it all together for me. Maybe a little stretch you might say, but I know that Father works through everything.

Cheers to REO Speedwagon, thanks guys for the memories, and may the event this evening bring back those memories to all those who attend 🙂 .
