A Different Road

Yesterday, my husband and I drove to work separately. On the way in, I made a stop at the post office. I was there early. When I walked up to the door, I confirmed they opened at 8:00 a.m. Great I thought, I’m three minutes early and can beat the rush. When I walked in there was already a woman in line, and the counter windows were still closed. Not long after, a line of people formed behind me. We waited, and waited, finally about five minutes after a man came out from the back and said, “Good morning everyone, today is a holiday, and there is no mail service”. We all looked at each other and then remembered. Now I will admit, having a sign on the door like the banks and other public offices might have been an added benefit, but we’ll let that one go.

I wandered back to the car and as I got in thought about how I still had this task on my list to do, half frustrated. Off to work, I went, and given that I had made that stop I was already on a different route to work. I was driving thinking about the day ahead, which was jam-packed. I realized that I had made my way down some different side streets, and it was kind of nice to see fresh scenery, (and few less construction vehicles).

I had decided to take a road that everyone says is quicker with less traffic. I have to admit it was a better route, and it wasn’t long before I was at a stop sign. I had a choice…turn left and finish the trek to work, or…go straight and take a look at the ocean just one block up. I sat there for a moment, and then turned off my signal and headed straight 🙂 . Best decision of the day!

I pulled up to a parking spot, grabbed my coffee, and hopped out of the car. I walked the few feet to the sand and as I made my way onto the beach I could smell the salt air and hear the sounds of the sea. The gulls having morning breakfast, and the water, it was peaceful. The water, like the sky was blue and actually like glass, the wind hadn’t yet picked up. I felt myself relax a bit and I thanked Father for guiding me to this spot before the start of a busy day.

Before I headed back to my car, I took a picture of the beauty and thought to myself, “Today is gonna be a good day”. As I drove the final blocks to work, I had a different perspective. And…though busy, it was indeed a good day.

Friends, change things up each day. Allow yourself to make it a great day before it starts. Take a different road to work, and experience the simple beauty around you. Stop at that park up the road. Roll down your window and smell the freshly mown grass. Enjoy coffee on the patio and listen to the birds as they wake. Thank Jesus for the new day ahead, and tell yourself, “Today is gonna be a good day”. Then…make it one.

Have a great day my friends 🙂 .

John 16:33
I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
