A few weeks ago I shared a story in this little blog about a friend of ours who passed away. I shared about the brightness of her eyes that always sparkled, even in her advanced stages of dementia. I believe her eyes showed the beauty of her soul.
Yesterday was Connie’s funeral and it was beautiful, just as she would have wanted it I think. We were talking with Connie’s husband at the reception afterward, and he shared with us that she had been in much pain for a very long time. Of course, because of the dementia, she didn’t understand what was happening. However, what he found was that if he could get her out and about, and with people, Connie would light up. She would begin talking with everyone, get involved in what was happening, and the pain would just fade. Being with people, and connecting one-on-one, eased the pain and gave her comfort, even in those later stages of the disease that took her.
I’ve said it here before, we are meant to be together, to connect, not just as people, but as children of our Lord. I believe that when we are together that connection sparks our hearts and changes us. We become stronger, our outlook changes, and we genuinely feel better. Why is that? Because Father is in our midst as well. He made us to “Be fruitful and multiply”, and when that happens, we are to live together as one body in Christ.
Friends, Connie showed us, that even when her mind was failing, there was something in her heart that knew she wanted to be with people. So, when you’re in the midst of challenges when you are feeling lost, anxious, or upset, reach out. Reach out to Father, of course, and ask for guidance and strength. Then…make a point of being with family or friends. Let the power of being with others strengthen you as well.
Have a wonderful day, and remember, we are not alone friends, we have Father, and we have each other. Together we can do so much.
