My husband and I were having a conversation the other day about the whole ai thing. I’ve been hesitant to get into this game because I’ve heard some not-so-good stories, and I know that many times the information it spits out is simply false.
I also have a concern that people use it too much. They use it for everything from writing an email to developing a marketing plan to creating a recipe. Don’t get me wrong, some uses are beneficial and should be utilized; yes, I believe there are. However, what I see happening is people using it to create something they wouldn’t create, and before you know it, they can’t develop that same something themselves.
Here’s an example. I asked a team member (who had a marketing background, according to her resume) to develop a simple marketing strategy to promote our church, our mission, our outreach, and to help bring people in to see who we are. Several weeks later, we scheduled a time to sit and review the strategy. Again, this was a woman with a marketing background.
A few days before our meeting, she gave me a copy to review. As I read through the pages, I realized that there was a ton of marketing lingo. There were charts and buzzwords, but there was nothing executable. It was almost a big circle that I kept reading round and round. It was at that point that I realized she had used ai to develop the entire document.
When we sat down to meet, I began to ask her some questions. I asked her to explain different areas of the document, “Help me understand what you mean in this section?”. She literally couldn’t speak to what she had “written”. She had used ai to put together this document; however, she couldn’t speak to what it said. Now, admittedly, you could say this was just a misuse of the ai. It’s not ai’s fault that she used it this way. I get that, but isn’t that the point?
So, back to the conversation I had with my husband a few days ago. He asked me, “Can you imagine if you used ai to write your blog? It would become something that reads like so many other things you see, it would have no feeling, it wouldn’t be you.” Well, I have no plans to use ai to write this little blog. To be honest, I’ll keep letting Jesus help me write this little blog, not ai. You all will just have to suffer my grammatical errors, ramblings, and the occasional misspelled word π .
Again, I know that ai has its pluses, I see uses for it. However, I just don’t want to see it become the only way people can function. It can make things so simple that people won’t think or reason for themselves. That’s what makes us who we are, Children of God, His creation. At the end of the day, keep in mind, ai, it’s a machine.
I know this post may not be popular with many, that’s ok. I have my view, my feelings, and they are just that, my views and my feelings. Others have their views and feelings, and isn’t it wonderful that they don’t have to be the same π .
Have a wonderful day, my friends. Thanks, as always, for your kind words of support π .
