I read a beautiful story last night, posted by a friend on her social media page. It is a story of love, hope, and the ability of God’s children to live life.
You see, her elderly father has been having health issues recently, including a stroke. He was scheduled to have surgery in the near future to address the problems that caused the stroke.
Her father and his fiancé were scheduled to be married yesterday, wanting to do so before his surgery. However, he awoke and called his daughters at 3:00 a.m., realizing he was having another stroke. Needless to say, the doctors were not going to allow him to leave the hospital 😦 .
Well, if they can’t go to the wedding, bring the wedding to them. The family worked with the hospital, and they turned the lobby into a wedding venue. This sweet couple was married there in the hospital lobby by the pastor of their church, and family and friends were in attendance. The pictures are just heartwarming.
My friend shared a bit of the homily that her pastor gave.
It begins saying, “The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for man to be alone.’” I think Eldon and Dee agree with this statement. When I met with Eldon and Dee, Dee said she wasn’t getting around well, she didn’t want to get out of bed some days, and that Eldon had given her a reason to live. She agreed with that statement, “It isn’t good for man to be alone.”
And Eldon, I think you’re a bit like me. If we love someone, we do 2 things to them: we tease them, and we want to serve them. I can see that when you’re with Dee, you have someone to serve. And it’s easy to serve a wife who is always with you. God knew it wasn’t good for you to be alone.
Friends, life is so precious. Father wants us to live it. He wants us to live it with others, not just with our husbands and wives, but with children, other family, and friends. We are not meant to be alone. We can all learn a lesson from Eldon and Dee. They are special people.
I ask your prayers this morning for Eldon. Due to the back-to-back strokes, his surgery has been moved to this morning. Please lift him and his new bride in prayer, friends.
Genesis 2:18
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him”.
