Here in SW Florida, we are in the final stretch of our rainy season, and dare I say it, hurricane season, shhh… About another 6 weeks or so, and we’ll be on the other side of it. We’re going to keep praying that things stay status quo in the hurricane department 🙂 . Sorry, I digressed there…
As we head into October, the seasons begin their change. The weather cools, and sometimes those are accompanied by gloom, clouds, and well, ick. This morning, the sky here is gray; it’s been like that for the last few days, actually. If you are like me, when those gloomy, cloudy days set in, all you want to do is curl back up in bed.
Well, I’m going to go out on a limb here. I think Father gives us gloomy days on purpose. What the heck are you talking about, is what I’m sure you are thinking right now. Hear me out. I think He gives us days like this to slow down a bit. Yes, take a few extra moments curled up in your comfy bed. Then, enjoy a cup of coffee with a good book, better yet, a cup of coffee with God’s Word. How about taking time to get your home decorated for fall? Or better yet, put up that Christmas tree we talked about a few days ago in this little blog. Do you have an art project tucked away somewhere because you simply didn’t have time? Well, on this gloomy day, put some time into it.
Do you see where I’m going? I think Father gives us days like this to refocus, to slow down and spend time with Him and some of the things we love. The day may seem gloomy outside, but inside, brighten your day by being more present in it with things you love to do. Talk with Father as you do, share the events of your week (even though He knows them), ask for guidance for the week to come, and frankly just “be”.
So today, friends, take the gift of a potential gloomy day and slow down. Before you know it, the sun will be shining again 🙂 .
Have a good day, friends.
John 12:46
I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.
