Prayer, Hope, Faith

Prayer can be a difficult thing sometimes. Wow, that’s a great way to start this little blog for the week ahead. Well, you all know me, I sometimes just blurt out what I’m thinking here.

As I was talking with Father this morning, I added one of my usual petitions to my morning prayers (it’s in my evening prayers too). I asked that He please return sweet Emily Rea to her family. I added that He knows where she is and what has happened to her, and could He please show her to the authorities. I’ve asked you all many times before to continue to pray for her return. Sometimes those prayers are difficult, especially as we get further away from the date of her disappearance. You start to lose hope, and you wonder if your prayers are being heard.

Yes, friends, sometimes it’s difficult to continue to pray when you feel helpless, and maybe even hopeless. As I talked with Father this morning, asking about what I could share today, what I heard was “Faith and Hope”. It just so happens that I asked Him what I could share after my petitions for Emily Rea. I think that was a sign to stay strong in faith and hope in what He can do.

Think about how Mary and the disciples must have felt when they watched Jesus, who they knew was the Son of God, as they watched Him die. They buried Him and laid Him in the tomb. Can you imagine their loss of faith and hope when that stone was rolled in front of the tomb? Three days later, just as they were told, He rose, victorious over death.

Those days when we feel our faith slipping, our hope waning, those are the times when we must turn to the Lord more purposefully. Share with Him exactly how we are feeling, and most importantly, ask Him to help restore our faith in His power to make all things right.

We’re human friends, Father knows that better than any of us. We’ll have those days, and when we do, He wants to help us overcome those human doubts and concerns. Let’s let Him do just that. This morning, if you feel your faith wavering, if you feel hope slipping, have a personal conversation with our Lord. Let Him help you regain your footing and reground you solidly in your faith in Him.

God is with us, friends, He will not forsake us. So, keep praying, let Him know you trust Him. And…continued prayers for the return of sweet Emily Rea.

James 1:3
For you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.
