This morning, I was reading a devotional that a friend sends me each day. It is focusing on the Lord’s Prayer and discusses the meaning of each section. We’re at the part of “Lead us not into temptation”. One of the pieces of scripture focused on Job. We all know how faithful Job was to God; even through all his trials, he was not tempted. Now, he got upset, I get it, but he stayed true to faith, and with each trial, he dug deeper into that faith.
Also, this morning I read a news clip about the death of the son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren of a gubernatorial candidate back home. They were killed in an accident last night; a third grandchild was not injured, however, he is now without his family. As I thought about that news clip, my mind began to wander to the other things that have happened over the past weeks. I thought about losing my brother-in-law, thought about a friend who is battling cancer, and thought about sweet Emily Rea’s disappearance. As I thought about all these situations, I asked Father, “Lord, how do we overcome these things?”. What I heard was, “Keep digging in”.
My goodness, this life can be so hard at times. There are things that happen that don’t make sense. There are things that happen that we cannot understand, and maybe we are not supposed to, at least at this time. What I know, however, is that digging deeper into our faith with each challenge or situation that arises is how we overcome.
Digging deeper means lifting continual prayer for those we love, but also for those we may not even know. I didn’t know Emily Rea personally, but I pray for her return every day, see what I mean. You don’t have to know the individuals to lift them in prayer; Father knows them, that is what matters.
Friends, I don’t know about you, but I feel tired lately, with all the things that seem to be happening in this world. A timely message from Father this morning. So, let’s keep digging in, dig deep into our faith, and hold firm in the knowledge that He has a love so deep for us, His children, we cannot even comprehend it.
Lift prayers today, friends, for the loss of a family, lift prayers for their remaining child, lift prayers for Emily Rea and her family, and for all who need healing today. Keep digging in.
1 John 5:4
For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.
