I mentioned yesterday that I have a friend, a priest, who sends me a daily devotional text. After reading the little blog yesterday morning, he sent me an additional text. If you recall, in this little blog I was sharing about how the happenings in this world lately have me feeling tired and just a heaviness.
Well, my friend shared his feelings with me. He said during evening prayer a few nights ago, he stopped and had an “honest conversation” with Father. He was thinking about the this world, about division, about people he has visited in the hospital, just all that we are going through these days. It was weighing heavily on his heart. After sharing his feelings, he said the message from Father was very clear, a question…”What are you clinging to?”. Hmmm…that is an interesting question, isn’t it?
I’ve been thinking about that question since I read his text message. What am I clinging to in this world? What do I cling to when I feel aggravated, overwhelmed, tired, or uncertain? Do I cling to the Lord? Well…admittedly, there are times when that is not the first thing I cling to. Many times, the first thing to happen is I cling to those unsettling feelings. The longer I cling to them, the heavier my heart gets. Well, that doesn’t work so well, does it?
Let me share with you the last line of the text message my friend sent to me. He said, “Now, when the weight of the ministry, the weight of the world feels heavy, I tell Father, ‘I am clinging to you’. We must dig in and cling”.
I think I’d rather be clinging to our Lord than clinging to the unsettledness of this world. I know that the Lord is a rock, a foundation that is not ever going to crumble or fall. He is here with me, with us, always.
So friends, when things seem heavy, dig in deeper to your faith and cling to the strength and the love that the Lord provides. They are gifts, let’s accept them and give thanks.
Have a good day friends 🙂 .
Matthew 11:28-30
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
