If you’ve read the last few blog posts, you know that we’re heading to spend Thanksgiving with our family up north. We’re making the drive, and admittedly, it’s not the most fun, but we’ve had a good time chatting and playing some remember when. We snuck in a lunch with our Godson yesterday on the way, which was a bonus.
Last night, when we got to the hotel, our youngest asked, “Can we make a stop tomorrow?”. When she asked that, we had a schedule we were trying to keep (some plans have changed for that tight timeframe as of this morning), but when she asked, we had a schedule. Anyway, I said, “Sure, where?”. She mentioned that it shouldn’t take long, but that she wanted to stop at the rest area just inside the Tennessee border. “I realize it’s just a rest area, but they have amazing views!”. Well, how in the world can we pass that up?!
As I sat down to write this little blog this morning, I thought about that conversation. How many times in this life do we dismiss some thoughts or moments as “just”? You know, it’s just a thank you card, it’s just a sunset, it’s just a sunrise, it’s just a little prayer for a friend, it’s just a moment to be with Father. Yes, there is a double meaning here. “It’s just” can mean, it isn’t that important, or “it’s just” can mean you don’t think your actions are really that big of a deal. In both cases, well, they matter.
You all know me, I tend to stress, over and over, the opportunities to stop and see the beauty around you. And…take a moment to say thank you, to spend time with the Lord, to give thanks for the gifts in this life.
Friends, I don’t think there are “It’s Just” moments. Father plans our path and gives us the opportunities to turn the it’s just into purpose. So, let’s take those moments for what they are: a time to be purposeful, to take in the beauty around, and to share His love.
We’ll be stopping at the rest area today, and I look forward to seeing the amazing views. It’s not just a rest area; it’s a place that the Lord has provided for rest and time to appreciate His creation.
Today, friends, when you find yourself thinking, “It’s Just”, take a moment to recognize how it isn’t. Give thanks for the moment.
Have a great day friends. Prayers lifted for the return of sweet Emily Rea.
