The Sand Dollar

A friend of mine gave me a little gift over the weekend. I didn’t get a chance to open it until yesterday, and when I did, I was curious. Inside was a plastic bag with three sand dollars in it. Two of them were a good size, and the third was just a small one. “Oh, these are beautiful”, I thought to myself. Then, I opened the paper that accompanied these special gifts from the sea.

The paper was titled, “The Legend of the Sand Dollar”. I read the poem through and then found myself taking the shells from the bag. I examined them, turned them over, then went back to the poem. My goodness, Father shows us in everything He created that there is a meaning. He is truly in the midst of all things and gives us every opportunity to see His presence.

This morning, friends, I share the legend of the sand dollar with you. I realize many of you may never have the opportunity to walk on a beach and see these beautiful shells. Take a look at the pictures below and see how wonderful God’s creation is šŸ™‚ .

The Legend of the Sand Dollar
There’s a pretty little legend
that I would like to tell
of the birth and death of Jesus
found in this lowly shell.

If you examine closely,
You’ll see that you find here
four nail holes and a fifth one
made by a Roman’s spear.

On one side, the Easter lily.
Its center is the start
that appeared unto the shepherds
and led them from afar.

The Christmas poinsettia
etched on the other side
reminds us of His birthday,
our happy Christmastide.

Now break the center open
and here you will release
the five white doves awaiting
to spread goodwill and peace.

This simple little symbol,
Christ left for you and me
to help us spread His gospel
through all eternity.

Have a wonderful day, friends, go share the spirit of Christmas, knowing that Father gave the gift of His Son for us.

1 John 5:13
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.
