Yesterday I was at church longer than usual. I actually went to two services. “Wow, she needed some extra Jesus”, you are probably thinking. Well, I can always use more Jesus, although that wasn’t the reason for two services. I’m fortunate to be close friends with the world’s best photographer team, and yesterday they came to take pictures of a typical Sunday morning, so we can use them on our new website. I attended the early service as I usually do, and then stayed to take pictures of the 9:00 a.m. principal service.
Okay, now that you have the backstory, on to the message I wanted to share. Going to the later service allowed for the opportunity to see parishioners that I don’t see often. As we made our way through the morning, the service, coffee hour, children’s Sunday school rooms, and adult education time, I saw familiar faces. It was nice to catch up with many.
With each encounter, there was a grasp of the hand, and in many cases a hug. The simple touch was noticeable. The feeling of togetherness, of being there for another, yes, it was noticeable.
I was thinking this morning about the difference a little touch can make. I remember the woman who simply touched Jesus’ garments and was made well. How many times did Jesus simply touch someone, and they were healed? Think of a time when you have consoled a family member or friend. What do you usually do? You hold their hand or hug them. Yes, the act of touching another can provide comfort and healing.
So friends, as you go about your day, I encourage you to look for the opportunities to touch another. A simple handshake, or even just a touch of a shoulder, can let someone know you care. That touch, well, it’s a sharing of Jesus’ love, and you never know the difference you might make in another person’s day 🙂 .
Have a good day, friends. Continued prayers for all who are facing challenges, and for the return of sweet Emily Rea.
Matthew 20:34
And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed him.
