Laugh at Yourself

I believe Father gave us the gift of laughter for many reasons. You’ve probably heard that it takes fewer facial muscles to laugh than to frown. Well, that alone should tell us we should be laughing more.

I got home a little later than usual last night, to say it was a strange day, well, that might be a tad of an understatement. I asked several times if there was a full moon, but nope, not even close. I have to admit I was pretty pooped when I got home and would have probably been just fine crawling into bed and calling it a night šŸ™‚ .

My husband was already prepping dinner, and I headed to change. Not long after, I was sorting through the mail while my husband and I chatted. I had my back to him, scanning and sorting the mail, junk, keep, double junk, you get the idea. Anyway, he asked me, “Did you put your shirt on backwards on purpose?” I looked down, and sure enough, I had my shirt on backwards and didn’t even realize it. We started laughing, and you know, it was just what I needed to leave the cray, cray of the day a little further behind me.

Yes, I believe the Lord blessed us with the gift of laughter to not only overcome sadness but to remind us to be humble. Laughter helps us to look at situations differently, I think. When we laugh, we shed the ugly feelings or emotions we have, our brains focus differently, and we’re able to see more clearly, so to speak. When we do that, we can humble ourselves before the Lord. Hmm…what the heck am I talking about?

Let’s take my situation last night as an example. I came home in a not-so-good mood. I was tired, my mind was on things I had to get done, I was feeling a little overwhelmed, and just in general, not a happy camper. I believe that Father had a little something to do with the whole shirt incident. When I was able to laugh, it helped release those emotions and feelings I had. And…it made me think about giving all of it to the Lord.

So, yes, I think laughing at ourselves, well, sometimes it’s the best medicine. Let’s let the laughter heal and humble us to be better servants of God.

Have a good day, friends. Continued prayers for the return of Emily Rea.

Proverbs 31:25
Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.
