Sharing the Load

My husband and I have been together for a very long time. We’ve settled into a routine when it comes to our homelife, especially when it comes to the chores and upkeep. We each have our own “responsibilities,” I guess you could say. Over time, we’ve each taken on chores, and now it’s just the given who does what, and we don’t even ask. If one picks up the other’s chore, there is always a thank you and appreciation.

Yesterday afternoon, we were doing some things around the house, and I paused to watch him and thought about how effortlessly we just share the load. It’s natural, it’s thoughtful, and well, it’s us. We were having a totally unrelated conversation as we went to bed last night, and he made the comment, “I’m just glad we have each other”. It brought me back to my earlier thoughts in the day, how we just do things effortlessly together.

I think our relationship with Father should be the same. First, we should help each other share the load. That’s a collective we, not just me and my husband 🙂 . As children of God, we should help each other stay on the straight and narrow. We should help each other when we’re struggling, give comfort, and lift prayers to overcome the challenges we face. Yes, in sharing the load, we fulfill the Lord’s wish to love others as He loves us.

When we help share the spiritual load with others, then our relationship with the Lord becomes effortless. Without even thinking, we are talking to Him, praying to Him, living in Him. He becomes part of us, and we just do.

So friends, let’s help each other share the load. Help lift the burden from a friend or neighbor. Offer to pray with them. Lend an ear to someone who just needs to share what’s on their heart. Be there to listen and let them know they are not alone; God is with them always. Together, we will grow effortlessly in Christ.

Have a good day, friends. Oh, and a special Happy Birthday to our friend Pipps, for whom you all lifted prayers a few weeks ago 🙂 .
