Their Future Glory

I’ve been reading the book of John over the past few weeks. Of all the Gospels, I have to admit, it is my favorite. I think I’ve shared here before that the Bible I use is The Founders Bible. It’s a wonderful version as it weaves together not only the word of God, but His word in the founding of our country. It shows how our founding fathers literally used the Bible as a cornerstone for the founding of this nation. I could go on and on about how good it is, but that is for another little blog 🙂 .

This morning, I was reading the end of John 17. The Founder’s Bible provides “titles” over the various verses to help describe what is happening. John 17:22-26 has a title above it, “Their Future Glory”. As I read the verses, I was struck by how much love Jesus showed His children as He spoke with His Father.

Their Future Glory – John 17:22-26
“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one;
I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.
Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.
O righteous Father, although the world has not known You, yet I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me;
and I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them”.

Jesus is asking Father to let His children be with Him always. Let us be where He is all the time. I should say that this chapter of John immediately precedes Judas’s betrayal of Jesus. Jesus knows what is about to happen; He knows He is about to be brutally killed, yet He asks God, “the love with which You love Me, may be in them and I in them”.

He is getting ready to die, and what He is most concerned about is that His children have the undescribable love that Father has for Jesus and for us. God gave His Son for us. My goodness, it still gives me chills thinking about it. This is such amazing love.

Friends, today, give thanks for the gift of Jesus. Lent is a time to humble ourselves, reflect, and accept that gift. When we do, then we too can open our hearts to share the very love that Jesus asks Father to fill us with.

Have a good day friends 🙂 .
