It’s Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. I mentioned yesterday that my husband and I readied the church for today. The palms are used to decorate windows, the altar, the crosses, and, of course, will be handed out to parishioners during the service. This service is special, and I’ve come to really love it.
In addition to the palms, this is the first of several times this week that we will read The Passion of our Lord. I have the honor of reading the Passion this morning during the service. It is emotional, and there are many points in the reading where you have to hold back tears. When I read the words, “Crucify Him”, I can’t help but wonder where I would be in that crowd. Would I have been shouting, “Crucify Him”? When Jesus calls to Father, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?”, more tears to calm. Then of course, when Jesus breathes His last breath and dies, well, there are no words.
The Passion of our Lord, yes, it’s emotional, but it is so necessary to read and remind ourselves of the price that was paid for us. A price paid so that we may have everlasting life with our Lord.
I would encourage you to read the Passion. If not today, then on Good Friday. It can be found in any of the four Gospels. Today we are reading Matthew’s version, chapter 27:1-66.
Have a good day, friends. Continued prayers for the return of Emily Rea, and for all who need prayers for healing, peace, and strength.
Matthew 27:46
And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
