Three Sacred Days

They begin today, the three most sacred days of the year. It’s called the Triduum and spans Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. The passion of our Lord lived out across these next few days.

On Maundy Thursday, we relive the last supper and Jesus washing the feet of His disciples. It’s at the last supper that Judas makes the final pact with satan to betray Jesus.

The foot washing portion of our Maundy Thursday service is always so moving. As this part of the service is taking place, this anthem is sung: The Lord Jesus, after he had supped with his disciples and had washed their feet, said to them, “Do you know what I, your Lord and Master, have done to you? I have given you an example that you should do as I have done.”

We finish the foot washing ceremony with these words from Jesus:
Peace is my last gift to you, my own peace I now leave with you; peace which the world cannot give, I give to you.

I give you a new commandment: Love one another as I have loved you.

Peace is my last gift to you, my own peace I now leave with you; peace which the world cannot give, I give to you.

By this shall the world know that you are my disciples: That you have love for one another.

It is a very moving service, especially since we know how the story ends, we know what comes on Good Friday. In His final hours, Jesus leaves His disciples with a humble example of how to live when He is gone. As we go through this day and evening, let us remember that example and live as He asks.

Friends, I encourage you to live into these three Sacred Days. Let yourself walk that path that He walked. Let yourself be reminded of the incredible sacrifice He made, knowing that on Sunday, we celebrate the most glorious gift of resurrection and eternal life. His gift to us.

Have a good day, friends.

John 13:14-17
If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you. Truly, Truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.
