“Do You Want to Go Get Ice Cream?”

Well, I’m guessing I might have your attention with the title of today’s little blog. It’s funny, there have been a few days since I started writing these where I’ve been stumped at the end of the day, just not sure what to say. Yesterday was certainly one of those days.

My husband and I had finished dinner and were sitting in front of the TV watching an old movie. Out of the blue, he said, you guessed it, “Do you want to go get ice cream?” I looked at him kind of surprised, as he usually makes it known early in the day that an ice cream run is in order. He said, “ya, let’s get out of here and get some ice cream”. So off we went to our favorite little local place, that has THE BEST ice cream in the city, at least in our opinion.

Interestingly the next 45 minutes was a reconnection of sorts. I know that probably sounds weird. I mean we’re together most of the day every day, why do we need to “reconnect”? Well, that’s just it, we’re together every day, almost all day together. We have our routine and our life is good. But last night, just that little change in the evening, something different, gave us the chance to talk, joke, and laugh. We laughed about silly things, and we listened to old music from when we were first married. We chatted about when our kids were young. We reconnected a little bit more and we were reminded yet again why we’ve been together for 35 years.

What if we said to Father every now and then, “Do you want to go get ice cream?”. What if we stepped away from the routine and reconnected with him? Sometimes we need to step away from the routine of the day to remind ourselves that God is calling us to have a relationship with him. I think God would love the chance to chat with us more, to hear us laugh, and yes joke with him. I think Father has an incredible sense of humor for sure, I mean he has to with us πŸ™‚

My point is, take some time during your week, step away from the craziness and go spend time with God. Break that routine you might be in and share your day with him. Go ahead, stop for ice cream if you want. Enjoy the gifts he provides, and in turn, thank him for those gifts.

James 1:17
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
