Bury it in the Sand

Yesterday we had plans to take our visiting family to the beach for the day. When we got up, enjoyed some coffee and looked out to catch a beautiful sunrise, everyone was ready for a day of sun!

I made the mistake of sitting down at my laptop, just to catch up on some email, and “take care of a couple quick items”. Well…y’all know how that turned out right? Those couple of quick items stretched into over an hour. I got to a stopping point and ran off to change and pack up the cooler, sun screen, towels etc. All the while thinking about emails I didn’t answer, wondering about items on the to-do list that weren’t getting checked off as completed, and just thinking about what I “should be doing”.

We made our way to the beach, even found a parking spot nearby, “thank you Father”, I said and started the trek across the boardwalk. I made a call to a friend/co-worker to check in. We laughed about some work things and she said something that hit home. “Kim, just dig a hole in the sand and bury the stuff that’s running through your head there. Go enjoy your day off and time with your family.” Then she said, “Hey that’s a title for one of your upcoming blogs, Bury it in the Sand”. It was timely advice and a great, inciteful title!

I’ve mentioned this in a previous blog. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the daily grind that you lose important time, time that matters, with family. And, how many times do you get wrapped up in the daily grind and lose time with Father? How often does the day go off the rails and before you know it, you’ve fallen into bed and not even thought about spending a moment with God? Well, on this Saturday morning I encourage you to bury it all in the sand and spend time with God.

Many of you have thanked me for writing this little blog each day. You’ve mentioned that you are taking the time to read this as part of your morning devotional. I can’t thank you enough for those kind and encouraging words. I would ask that you add something before reading this little blog. Before you read here, spend time with Father to start your day. Make that the start of your devotional time. Then feel free to come on over and take a moment to hear my thoughts with a cup of coffee.

Let’s spend a couple of minutes each morning together with Father. Because you know what he said, “Wherever two or three are gathered, he is among us”. I’m happy to be here with you, with him 🙂

Colossians 1:17
He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
