The weekend continued yesterday with our family. We took a morning eco boat tour around Marco Island’s famed 10,000 Islands. Those of you who know me, know that my heart is forever in Marco Island. I live just north of Marco, and make the 15-minute drive there whenever possible. Sorry, I squirreled just for a moment.
Anyway back to the eco tour around Marco. Our family was looking forward to seeing wildlife, the dolphins, manatee, and turtles if possible. I too was looking forward to seeing these treasures of God’s. However, I wanted them to see something else. I wanted them to see Cape Romano and the famed Dome Home.
The dome home have an amazing story. It was built back in 1980 by a retired businessman to serve as a vacation home for his family. The home was equipped with all the amenities including, dock, satellite tv, central air, and a 23,000 gallon cistern to collect fresh water. When the home was built back in the 80s there was MILES of beach. What the owner didn’t plan on was natural beach erosion. Then in 1992, Hurricane Andrew came through and destroyed the inside of the home. In 2017, another major storm, Hurricane Irma, took out one of the domes.
Now, just a little over 40 years later, the home sits literally in the water. Only four of the six domes are still visible, the others having sunken into the ocean. It’s almost earie to pass by them now. Looks like a scene out of Star Wars.
Ok, where am I going with this history lesson about a little piece off Marco Island, Florida? Well, seeing the domes yesterday made me think about how often we have plans. Made me think about how we make plans, how often we have a plan, only to have something happen. The plans totally fall apart. The question is, how do we handle the times when those plans fall apart? Do we ask Father to help us understand why? Do we ask Father to show us the plan HE has for us?
Well…perhaps a better plan, is to talk to Father BEFORE we make a plan. Share your thoughts/plans with Father before you begin the execution step. Ask him, “Is this the path you’d like me to follow?”. Ask Father to show you the path to walk, the steps to take. Having this conversation ahead of time just might save time and heartache on the back end. Once you ask the question, sit and listen for the answer. And, don’t be afraid to scrap your original plan to follow his.
Oh and by the way, the 10,000 Islands, they are an incredible gift from God. Totally bless to have them so close.
