When my husband and I moved into our place last year, one of the things I noticed first in the kitchen was the large amount of space above our refrigerator. I’ve pondered for a while, what to put up there.

Well, in April I had an idea, scary I know 🙂 We have one of those paint-your-own pottery shops just down the road from our home, I pass it every day going to the Frog. You know you go inside, pick out one of their pieces along with paints, stencils, sponges, and all these great crafty things to decorate your creation. I decided to invite some friends to help make pieces to place in that space in our kitchen.

I arrived early and picked out six plates of various shapes and sizes. As the ladies arrived I let them choose the piece they wanted to decorate. No rules, they could design, paint, draw, or whatever they wanted on their piece. Everyone went to work picking out paints, the right size brushes, sponges and stencils. We even grabbed some magazines of sample pieces for ideas.

We had a wonderful time talking about family, the community, church, and of course admiring what others at the table were creating. We learned so much about each other that day. We laughed and joked, and we discussed doing an activity like this again for a local charity.

A mere two hours later the masterpieces were complete and on there way to be baked. We continued our time together, joining the husbands for dinner and shared the details of our day. More stories and laughter ensued and by the end of the evening we all agreed, it was simply a wonderful day.

I know, I sound like a broken record, but Father has blessed us all. This was a simple day of just painting plates and platters. But, my goodness the love that was shared and the memories made are priceless. God brought us together and was in the midst of our day.

Take time for simple activities like this with your family and friends. Make things, take photos, get dirty and enjoy this life that we have been gifted. Let Father into that special time and share his love as you do 🙂

p.s…. Every time I look up on that shelf, I think of the special friends who have decorated my life.
