I Love to Eat

Yep, gotta admit, I simply love to eat. It’s not the eating, it’s the experience. I love to cook, I love to entertain, I love to hear guests enjoy good food and drink, and yes, I love to eat. It’s a major downfall of course. Hence my gaining weight this last year. Ugh… I have promised myself to rectify this current situation, but I digress!

What I have found over the years though, is that eating, entertaining, etc., is such a connection with God’s children. Throughout history, so many memorable events occur during a meal. Um….does the Last Supper ring a bell? Or how about the wedding in Cana? Father takes care of his children and I think he knows that the basics of eating and drinking enhance our senses.

There is also an opportunity to share Father when you are at a meal. Many times recently we have been at breakfast, dinner, or lunch with friends and have asked to pray before the meal. When our kids, nieces and nephew were here in August, by the end of the week they were reciting the prayer at meal time. Without even having to push, Father found his way into our daily meals 🙂

I encourage you to take some time this week to give thanks before each meal. We have a simple prayer that we say when we sit down for a meal, feel free to snag this, or don’t, it’s totally up to you “Bless us o Lord, and these thy gifts, which we are about to receive from thy bounty, through Christ our Lord, Amen”.

Father has blessed us in many, many ways. Giving thanks for his gifts before we partake, in my opinion, is simple and thoughtful.

Thank you Father for your many gifts. My I never lose sight of those gifts. Most especially the gift of your dear Son Jesus.

1 Corinthians 11:24
and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is given for you: do this in remembrance of Me.”
