The Calm Before the Storm

Well, we live in SW Florida. It’s paradise, plain and simple. We wouldn’t be anywhere else. However, as you all know, June – October is hurricane season in Florida. And…we’ve been pretty lucky so far in 2022. Well, that all changes this weekend. We’ve got a whopper headed our way, and so far it looks like most of the darn state is going to be included in the fun.

As we all know, living through any unexpected situation, natural disaster, etc, is about being prepared. So yesterday we filled our cars with gas, loaded up on propane for our generator, started freezing containers of water for ice, made sure our shelves were stocked, radios charged, batteries ready, and so on. I’ve subscribed to several local weather guys who give just the facts and not the hype. We’ve checked in with neighbors and we’re preparing our little community, pulling in pool furniture, making sure flags and flower pots are inside, you get the idea. We’re doing everything we can to be ready and to make sure we are in touch with our neighbors close by.

Now, we turn to Father, because from here on out, it’s totally in his hands. Storms are unpredictable for sure, and so far Hurricane Ian is not quite sure where he wants to make landfall although with each day we get a better idea. We’re lifting prayers to Father to keep our state safe, to help each other be prepared, to take care of each other during and after this storm.

The timing of this storm is not lost on me. What if Father is bringing us together through this potentially serious situation to work together, help each other, to be there for each other. The craziness of the last few years has driven his children apart. To that, I simply say enough. We are ALL God’s children. Time to start acting like it.

As you start your day today I simply ask that you pray for our Sunshine State. It’s going to be a busy few days, but God willing, we’ll come out on the other side stronger and more united as we help each other make it through and then rebuild on the other side.

p.s.. The pictures below are from last nights beautiful sunset from the beach….the calm before the storm 🙂

Psalm 91:4
He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
