New Life

Yesterday afternoon I stepped away from volunteering activities to try and disconnect a bit. I went to the local nursery and picked up a few mums and a replacement plant for a cactus that was on our lanai and had definitely seen better days.

Many of you I’m sure can relate to this, working in dirt with plants or a garden, well it’s very therapeutic. You can just work and dig, and shape and water, and before you know it, you have plants ready to just spring to life in their new surrounding.

As I dug in the dirt yesterday I started thinking about the past 10 days. I remembered last Thursday when hubs and I tried to upright a couple of trees in very large planters at the church. We soon discovered that a landscaper was going to have to finalize this task, however, we took the time to loosen the dirt, (that was covered with a salt layer), and water the heck out of the trees. You could almost feel them saying “thank you!”. As we watered the trees I noticed a very green leaf coming up out of the dirt at the base of the tree, new life springing forward.

I planted my mum’s and my lanai plant this afternoon and looked to see new life. Just as I made my way inside, the rain began to fall. I cringed initially thinking of all the people still trying to recover from Ian, the last thing we need is rain. But then I also thought about our streets and sidewalks still covered with dried mud and muck. The rain will help wash away this dirt and filth.

Life brings challenges, hardship, and disasters at times. But, through these, God’s children come together. We help each other and we overcome. We rise out of the darkness to new life. We begin again.

Today is a new day, a new week, a new beginning. Stop for a moment and give thanks to Father. He brings his children together to overcome and rise to new life.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
