Comfort Food

Remember yesterday I mentioned how it was going to be nice to have some downtime? I had thoughts of just taking a walk, playing in the dirt with some plants or just spending some time on the lanai to be with God.

Well, you know what they say about the best-laid plans. I can’t really explain it, but the whole day was just “off”. There seemed to be something weird in the air. I’m sure you’ve had those days when weird things just happen and you’re not sure why? Yep, that pretty much explains the day, and as it progressed my mood declined 😦

Later in the afternoon, I made the trip to the grocery store and as I walked in I thought to myself, “I’m going to cook, time to make some comfort food”. I think I’ve mentioned before that I love to cook, it’s a great stress reliever and I love to share food with friends and neighbors. And…fall is such a great season to do just that!

So as I made it through the store I picked up what I needed for recipes I haven’t made in a very long time and some I’d never made. Time to make my mother-in-law’s signature salad dressing, then on to some fresh zucchini bread, snag what I needed for baked french onion soup, and ingredients for a few more classic comfort dishes.

Just thinking about spending time in the kitchen creating some tasty dishes, and sharing some of them with friends, ya, it was a great mood changer. It’s funny how a simple thing like cooking and sharing the results can make you happy. I think that was Father at work yesterday afternoon. He made me think about doing for others, he made me stop thinking about the not-so-good going on, and focus on making something and sharing with others.

Well, as you start your week, I hope you find some time to use your talents to do something for others. Spend some time in the kitchen, at your craft table, or just writing a note to a friend. Oh, and I’m happy to be a taste tester should you want to share any of your food talents with me 🙂 .

Have a great day everyone!

Hebrews 13:16
Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

One response to “Comfort Food”

  1. What is the BEST DISH that you make? I find that people who love to cook have recipes better than anyone else has ever thought of. I’d love to try and make it.
