“Tree Weekend”

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been sharing a little bit about our family traditions at Christmas time. For instance, this particular weekend was always the weekend we would get our Christmas tree. During its heyday, this event saw five families all piled into a panel truck, making the trip to our favorite tree farm. The owners met the truck with smiles and shouts, as we unloaded our huge group.

We would pick out decorations and ribbons to give to the wreath makers, who got to work making these priceless creations, while we headed out to wander through the farm in search of the perfect tree. There were years I swear we walked every inch of that farm! Once found we’d wave the huge stick to signal we needed the saw and the guys got to work harvesting the tree. I remember the incredible smell of the pine, it was as beautiful as the tree itself.

Well, this year, we aren’t chopping down a tree, actually today we’re doing some Christmas shopping. Our youngest has already bemoaned, “um…this is NOT the shopping weekend, this is the tree weekend”! Well…just a few weeks ago she found a wonderful tree farm. She and friends will be headed there today to keep our family tradition going, the first weekend in December, “tree weekend”.

Friends, I hope you keep your family traditions going. If you are a new family start creating new traditions to share with your children, these memories will stay with them long into adulthood. Then, they in turn will build on them and keep the traditions going. Place Father in the middle of all of them, and these special times together will help keep a family strong.

Enjoy the day friends, and if you are tree shopping today, may you find the perfect one 🙂 .

So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.
