The Grub & The Memories

I mentioned in this little blog a few posts ago that I’m hosting our community chili cook-off next weekend. I was thinking about the shopping list for my entry and grabbed my cookbook. You see it is “my” cookbook

Last Christmas I made a cookbook filled with recipes I’d collected or come up with over the years, to give to my kids. It was a labor of love I guess you’d say but I had a great time putting it together. With each recipe, I walked down memory lane, and I made sure to share if it was used at some family event, so the kids could do the same when they used the book.

I pulled out my cookbook, named “McQueen Clan Grub” last night to look at my chili recipe. OY, I thought, I forgot about all the ingredients in this recipe, I even mention that he has everything but the kitchen sink in it, sorry digression… Anyway, what caught my eye was the caption, “This was a staple at the McQueen Clan post-Thanksgiving Bonfires”. Ahhh, the memories.

You see the Saturday after Thanksgiving for years, we would gather at my husband’s childhood property, (his sister still owns some acreage there known as “the woods”). He’s one of six kids and we’d assemble with our families and friends for a huge bonfire and lunch. Many years it was freezing, some it was beautiful, but always it was special. We’d catch up with those who couldn’t make it to Thanksgiving dinner, we’d see local friends my husband grew up with, we’d walk the property where he grew up and we’d remember.

Ya, all of that out of just opening a cookbook 🙂 . Father has a funny way of reminding us how blessed we are in this life. Blessed to have family and friends, blessed to have talents he’s gifted us with and blessed to have memories fill our lives.

As you read this little blog today, I hope it reminds you of the blessings that fill your life. Stop for a moment and just give thanks for them. Have a great day my friends 🙂 .

Ephesians 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.
