I’m guessing you might be thinking I’m taking off for a day at the beach with that title right? No not today, although that doesn’t sound like a bad idea since the weather has warmed up a bit here π .
No, in today’s little blog, I wanted to share a poem that I’m sure most of us have read. There is actual debate about the original author of the poem and to be honest, that isn’t the focus for me today. It’s the message and hope that this poem brings that is most important. This poem should speak to everyone, as we have all been here.
One night I dreamed a dream. I was walking along the beach with my Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, one belonging to me and one to my Lord.
When the last scene of my life shot before me I looked back at the footprints in the sand. There was only one set of footprints. I realized that this was at the lowest and saddest times of my life. This always bothered me and I questioned the Lord about my dilemma.
“Lord, You told me when I decided to follow You, You would walk and talk with me all the way. But I’m aware that during the most troublesome times of my life, there is only one set of footprints. I just don’t understand why, when I need You most, You would leave me.”
He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you, never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”
So, yes I’m guessing most of you have read this poem before, and if you’re like me, the first time you read it you thought the same thing as the man in this poem. Lord, why did you leave me in those times? Father never leaves us, although admittedly we turn our backs on him, or at least we don’t ask him to help us. We take things on ourselves and of course, we all know how that works π .
Just a little reminder that God is always with us friends, and one day when we are in his presence let us not feel the need to ask why did you leave me. Keep him close at all times and know that he is always with us and will never forsake us.
Have an awesome day my friends!
Deuteronomy 1:31
And in the wilderness, where you have seen how the Lord your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way that you went until you came to this place.
