This week a company has been in our neighborhood trimming our palm trees. Little did I know before moving here that though it takes them a while to grow tall, the fronds and other debris grow pretty quickly. Depending on the palm tree, you might find fronds on the ground, (you don’t want to be under one when it falls), or even worse these icky berry-type things that literally just make a mess.
The trimming in our neighborhood usually takes place in September or October. Well, you all know what happened here last September. Yes, Ian had other plans and unfortunately did his own trimming of trees π¦ . As you can imagine our trees took quite the beating, and over the last few months the dead fronds and other foliage has gotten pretty bad.
Well, the trimming company was able to make it to our neighborhood this week and my goodness the trimming they did. Things look soooo much better. You could almost hear the trees say thank you for ridding them of the dead debris and cleaning up their tops. I watched the guys trim the trees yesterday, and watched the dead fronds fall to the ground. Another group would come along and scoop up all the debris and toss it into a mulcher and spit the bits into a truck. Everything felt cleaner and fresher almost like a cleansing rain had come through, it’s kind of hard to explain.
I couldn’t help but think that sometimes we need to prune our lives this way. What I mean by that is I think we regularly need to trim away the negative that creeps in. We need to get rid of things that are pulling us away from Father, the things that are preventing us from having that relationship with him. Like palm trees, these things grow over time and they start to intrude on the healthy branches in our lives. Before you know it the overgrowth is suffocating the best parts of your life and the relationship with God has taken a back seat.
So my friends, maybe this is a good time to take a look at trimming away the things that are keeping us from God. I’m guessing things will be clearer, things will look better and ultimately we will be stronger when we go through the process. And…it’s probably a good idea to involve Him in the process as God knows what we are going through. Regular life pruning is what I’ve dubbed it, we just need to ask Him to help us step away from the barriers and grow stronger in our relationship with Him.
Have a great day my friends π
