I’m helping with an event today at our church. You see, twice a year we have our church mouse sale. It’s really quite impressive how it all comes together.
The mouse at our church is a room, well it’s several rooms actually, where we collect “gently worn” items. Parishioners regularly donate items from clothing to household goods, furniture to books, fine china to artwork, and jewelry to albums. You name it, we’ll take it π . Throughout the year, the mouse is open to parishioners on Sundays to peruse and purchase, and as I said it’s open for donations all the time.
Twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, we hold large community sales. Volunteers, (parishioners), spend several days unloading the mouse into our great hall. Items are sorted and displayed by category and tagged with prices. It is a very big project and quite a labor of love.
On sale day, (today), the sale will run from 9:00 a.m. to noon. We will have people lining up outside the doors an hour before, many bringing chairs to sit in while they wait. We’ll pass out coffee and cookies to those in line to help pass the hour π . Hundreds of people will pass through our sale today and I always enjoy talking to them. Many have some interesting stories, they are at our sale to find collector’s items, or they have a specialty store of their own, you learn a lot about our community for certain.
The funds raised from our mouse sales go into our “women of Trinity” fund. This group does major outreach throughout the year with grants to various community charities. As I said it’s a labor of love, but worth it to see the funds help so many in our community. Community helping community, isn’t that what it’s all about?
More than just the sale and raising funds for the community, today is about being together. Today is about people coming together and supporting an event to help others. We work hard yes, but we laugh, we see people we may not see regularly, we catch up and we give. We give of our time and effort and we give our love to our community and those who need a helping hand. And…you guessed it, Father will be in the middle of the activities π .
So, off I go to put on my sales hat. Have an awesome day my friends, and remember, God is always with us π
Acts 20:35
In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, βIt is more blessed to give than to receive.β
