Watch Over the Horses

I think I’ve mentioned in this little blog before that my husband and I are huge Kentucky Derby fans. Well, actually the love of the Derby goes back to when my mom was alive. I remember as a kid, watching this event on TV every year with her. It was exciting, even watching as a kid! This year will be no different, we will be in front of the TV, (now I’m old enough for the mint julep too), to watch the “fastest two minutes in sports”.

My husband and I were fortunate to attend the Derby many years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. Churchill Downs is an impressive place, (once you get past the back entrance, oh but that’s for another blog). Inside, the Twin Spires, the beautiful track, and of course the incredible horses. We were on the first turn not far off the track and when the horses came around that turn you could actually FEEL the ground thunder. The power of these animals as they do what they love to do, which is RUN, is simply amazing.

It’s been a difficult week though at Churchill Downs. Yesterday a friend sent a text to an article about four horses that have died at the track over the last week. Two of the horses died suddenly and their cause of death is not yet known. The other two horses died of injuries after racing, (they were both euthanized for humane reasons). I just feel so sad reading this article. These are just the most beautiful animals.

So today friends, I say a little prayer that Father will wrap his loving arms around his beautiful creatures at Churchill Downs. All they want to do is run, it is literally in their blood. May God keep them all safe as they begin their final preparation. And, may the owners and trainers have the insight and discernment to care for these incredible animals with the utmost love and respect. God’s creatures are, just like His children, they are His creations. May He bless them and keep them safe.

Have a good day my friends, oh and side note…the fillies run today at the annual Kentucky Oaks Race 🙂 .

Job 12:7-10
But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.
