So if you follow this little blog regularly you know about the beautiful eagle family that has a nest not far from us. The mother Harriet and Father, M15 were proud parents back in February. Not long after the eaglets, named E21 and E22 were hatched, Harriet went missing and has not been seen since. The speculation is she was killed trying to protect her young while M15 was out hunting for food. We’ve watched the father raise the two eaglets since Harriet has been gone. He’s been amazing and to witness the growth of them all has been wonderful.
Well, one of the two eaglets, E21 has fledged meaning he’s taken flight and is not living in the nest. While sibling E22 has also taken flight he still hangs close to the nest, dad even brings food occasionally. However, both of the eaglets have grown strong and are almost as beautiful as their father. It won’t be long before E21 leaves the nest as well. If all goes as things do in nature, M15 or one of the young will likely be back next year to this nest to start another family. Eagles are single-mate species so we’ll see if M15 actually does find another mate after losing Harriet.
This weekend my granddaughter is graduating. I’m still trying to determine where the heck the last 19 years have gone. I remember the day she was born like yesterday. It’s been a week ago today that she narrowly escaped a building fire, where her apartment and others were destroyed. I’m in awe of how blessed we are.
Well, like E21 and E22, our granddaughter is leaving the nest. The future ahead is filled with opportunities and new beginnings. I can’t wait to watch her grow into the young woman she is already becoming. Just like E21 and E22, she is growing strong, she’s spreading her wings and she’s seeing the wonder of this world. However, along with the wonder, comes the challenges and the difficulties. Like she showed last week, I know she has what it takes to overcome those challenges and the curve balls that will be tossed her way. I know that Father has this child firmly in His hands, and I cannot wait to see how she will fly.
I know it’s the natural order of things, our children and grandchildren grow to leave the nest. Like those beautiful eagles though, making that trip back home occasionally is much appreciated 🙂 .
Have a great day my friends, and say a little prayer for my granddaughter as she embarks on this next journey. Oh and a little prayer for the Eagle family who has been through a lot and has overcome.
Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
