If you’ve been reading this little blog for the past few days you know that we traveled back home to celebrate our granddaughter’s graduation this past weekend. It’s been a great trip catching up with family and friends and of course the celebration of her big day!
My husband and I had some time while we were here to drive around the town where we spent most of our lives. We were in awe of many of the changes. The U of I campus where he spent his college days, well to say that it’s changed a bit would be a slight understatement. We drove through the neighborhood where we purchased our first home, and then drove by our home north of town, where I loved to capture the sunrises and sunsets from our back deck. To say that the memories filled us as we drove, well that would be a slight understatement as well 🙂 . There have been changes that is for sure, but that’s what happens in this life, we experience change.
One thing I noticed on this trip though, was the Midwest sky, especially in spring and early summer, it hasn’t changed, it’s still as beautiful as ever. Just a few nights ago, the sun set behind us as we were driving back from our granddaughter’s graduation party. It was a huge, I mean huge orange ball. Then, this morning I went downstairs to grab coffee before we head to the airport and as I came off the elevator I stopped to see the beautiful pinks and blues in the sky. God’s paintbrush has been at work these past few days.
Father provides us with so many gifts, simple gifts that sometimes we don’t always have time to appreciate. Yes of course, the gift of family and friends, those are priceless, although not always simple 🙂 . The Midwest sky though, ya that is a simple one, and I guess I could include priceless in that as well.
Thank you Father for reminding me this morning of the beauty you created, let me never take this simple gift for granted. Friends, wherever you are I hope you get a moment today to enjoy the simple gift of a sunrise or a sunset. Or, take a moment to step outside on your lunch break and just simply look up, and remember Father is there looking back down at you 🙂 . Have a great day friends!
2 Samuel 23:4
He dawns on them like the morning light, like the sun shining forth on a cloudless morning, like rain that makes grass to sprout from the earth.
