Favorite Pictures

You all know that of course some of my favorite pictures to take are sunrises and sunsets. Admittedly, living in SW Florida it’s a little difficult to catch a sunrise. Sunsets on the other hand, we’ll ya, those are a daily blessing around here 🙂 .

This morning I was looking at some pictures, but not of the sunrises or sunsets. No this morning as I made my way to my desk I passed by family pictures. Senior pictures of our kids, pictures of our grandkids from when they were babies to their high school graduation. Pictures of me and my husband with the kids and grandkids, they are all placed around the many rooms of our home.

At my desk, I have two of my most favorite pictures of my kids. I have a picture with my oldest daughter when we were at a church dinner dance many years ago. She’s sitting at a table and I’m standing next to her looking down at her as we were talking. We were both smiling. I don’t even remember what the conversation was about but it is a great picture and I cherish it.

The second is a picture of our youngest at an Illini football game. She was in the Marching Illini band, (one of her many dreams come true), and they had just won a game that was sending them to a post-season bowl. The band always flipped their caps to indicate a win. The picture is of her looking over her shoulder and pointing to the flipped cape. She was excited to be going to the bowl game as you can imagine. Yes, these pictures bring smiles to my face every morning.

If you are like me, you have hundreds, if not thousands of pictures from your phone to “the cloud”. They are all sorted by date and sitting in that ever-present digital space. While it’s convenient for storage, it’s not the same as having a nice picture in a frame where you can have the joy of seeing it when you walk past.

This past week as I remembered my dad on the anniversary of his death, I looked at some pictures of him. I realized that those printed memories carry some very special times in my heart, just like those pictures on my desk and all around our home. It doesn’t matter how many times I walk by them, each time I look at one of those photos I’m reminded of the time it was taken.

I guess my point this morning friends is that, yes, we can store pictures neatly in our digital libraries. We can spend hours “scrolling” through them to find just the right one. For me though, I guess I’ll still print my favorites and place them where they can be enjoyed and bring the memories front and center every day. Father has blessed us all with special times, times that we can fortunately capture. I hope you’re like me and you share those favorites, share the blessings you have 🙂 .

More random thoughts in this little blog this morning. Have a great day my friends, and may Father provide you with an opportunity to take, or share some pictures today 🙂 .

Psalm 84:11
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.

One response to “Favorite Pictures”

  1. For my 87 birthday this year our kids gave me wonderful framed pictures of their families. And a dear friend brought a photographer to my family birthday party and gave me photos of the event. Best gifts ever.
