The “I” of the Storm

It’s been almost a year since Hurricane Ian made its way through SW Florida. Some parts of this area are still recovering, people still not in their homes, businesses just now reopening, and some areas like Ft. Myers Beach and Sanibel Island will never be the same. Yes, the recovery has been long and has taken time. What I know though is that communities pulled together after Ian made its way through. The show of support for each other was nothing short of amazing. Strangers helping strangers, from rescues to rebuilds, God’s children taking care of each other.

Well one year later we are now facing tropical storm, soon to be hurricane Idalia, (yes I’ve already asked the hurricane namers to skip over the letter “I” next year!), which is headed to the west coast of our wonderful state. We will have a better idea this morning what it’s doing, but this I know, it’s another very large storm. The initial storm surge forecasts for Idalia are not pretty,, we’re talking potentially 7-11′. Oh and let’s toss in a Super Moon on Tuesday evening which will mess with the tides again.

Florida friends, especially West Coasters, please be prepared. Don’t just focus on the eye of this storm where it is making landfall, look at the effects it will have in total. Better to be prepared and nothing happen, than the other way around. Check on your neighbors, friends, and family, and make sure they are prepped and okay. Listen to local officials and if told to evacuate, do so. Then later this week when the storm has passed through, let’s do what we do best, step in and help where we are needed.

Non-Florida friends, please lift some prayers for everyone in the path of Idalia. Yes, we choose to live here, and we know the risks. There are risks wherever you choose to live, whether it be tornados, earthquakes, floods, blizzards, or hurricanes. We’ll deal with them all as they come, and we’ll do it together with Father’s help.

Father, please reach down upon your creation and calm the seas. Watch over your children in the path of this storm. Guide us and protect us Lord, and bring us your children together to support each other in its aftermath.

Be prepared my friends, please don’t underestimate where this storm is headed and it’s intensity. Pay attention to the warnings, and the recommendations of local officials.

Stay safe everyone.

Isaiah 41:13
For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”
