Opening day. Here we go. Last night I had the pleasure of helping out the keynote when he arrived at the hotel. We had to do a sound check with him, and then he had an appointment at 7:30 p.m. that he had to keep. He arrived at the hotel at 7:00pm and we still had to get him checked in. Scrambling for sure, and I was a little anxious, to say the least.
You might not think this was such a big issue, I mean the guy is a professional speaker, he travels all over the world. Easy, peasy right. Well, I may have neglected to mention that Chad Hymas, our keynote is a quadriplegic. The appointment he needed to keep was with a local home care service who would help to give him a shower last night.
The time between his arrival at the front desk, the sound check, and then to his room with the help of a team member was amazing. We made it to Chad’s room by 7:35 p.m. just as the phone was ringing to let him know the care service was in the lobby. I have never seen anything like it. He knows what must be done, he gives clear instructions, he moves with purpose AND with grace, thanking everyone along the way. He apologizes for what may appear as shortness at times, but he knows the schedule he must keep. I have never experienced anything like that short window of time.
Checking in with him throughout the evening, he was again full of grace and ended with how much he is looking forward to speaking with our group. He has been on the road for 28 days straight, with a short stopover back home last weekend for his son’s wedding. He flew in last night from Montreal, and tonight will be gone by 6:30pm, on to his next event.
I’ve watched many of the videos on Chad’s website, sharing his story and what a day is like for him, (you can too at his website). But…to witness it up close. I was in awe and I must say, I was humbled. This man has more grace, drive, and faith than I will ever have. Life has dealt him an incredibly difficult hand, and he plays it without asking to discard a single card.
This morning he will present, “Who Needs Legs When You Have Wings”. I will be sitting up front and will look forward to hearing his message personally. I only hope one day I can be filled with as much grace and faith as this man.
Friends, please lift prayers for Chad today, as he presents, signs books, and travels. God has blessed me with meeting some pretty incredible people in this world, and today I thank Father for Chad.
Have a great day everyone. AADOM Peeps, HERE. WE. GO! #aadom23
