Get Rid of the Clutter

Have you ever started something and then had it grow and before you know it your your little task is a full-fledged project? Well, that was our afternoon yesterday. It’s been a while since we’ve done a thorough cleaning of our abode, and we had been doing little things on Saturday to just tidy things up. Well, yesterday one thing led to another and before we knew it we had done everything from washing down the front door to washing lanai furniture, cleaning closets, and getting rid of old clothes. When we were finished though, it felt good.

I told my husband as we sat down for a little nosh before dinner, there was something to be said for being able to see the results of your work. Though we were tired, we felt so much better to have things tidied up around here. There are still tons of tasks on our home to-do list, I’m sure you all can relate, that list never seems to shorten 🙂 .

This morning as I sat down to write this little blog, I was thinking back on yesterday. It may be a stretch here but I think keeping busy yesterday, cleaning, and tidying up is what Father felt I needed. Here’s what I mean by that…sometimes we get so wrapped up in the day-to-day, we get bogged down in the “stuff”, and we can’t focus on what is important. Sometimes we need to take just a bit and tidy things. We need to clean the space around us so we can refocus. And…let’s face it, sometimes we need to just feel like we’ve accomplished something.

I can’t help but think about our relationship with God. It’s easy for Him to fall out of focus when the space around us is cluttered, um…like my Saturday morning was right? Maybe He was showing me yesterday, by physically cleaning and putting things in order, how my relationship with Him should be. Get rid of the clutter, get rid of the things that are keeping me from that solid relationship with Him.

My perspective is clearer today for sure. I’m thankful for that time yesterday. While no one really likes to clean, there were certainly other things more fun to do, it is necessary. And…when it’s finished, how much better we feel 🙂 . Like I said friends, maybe I’m stretching things just a tad, but I do think Father gave me a message yesterday. Get rid of the clutter and refocus.

Have a great day my friends 🙂 .

My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.
