Just a fun little story in today’s little blog. Over the weekend I had the idea to buy stockings for everyone in our office. I wanted to hang them on each office door for a couple of reasons, yes for decoration, but also as an opportunity for people to share little things with each other. Not necessarily a purchased gift, but perhaps just a handwritten note, or handmade treat. Just a way for everyone to share. I drug my husband along to help me pick out, what I hope to be, annual treasures. At first, I thought about getting the same style for everyone, but then when we saw the entire aisle of differently decorated “socks”, well that was it, different stockings for each person.
We spent a good deal of time in that aisle, back and forth, debating about whether this design or that design was right for this person or that person. After quite a bit of selecting and putting back, we had a stocking for each person.
Yesterday I made my way around the office as people were out and about at meetings or lunchtime and hung the stockings on each door. As people made their way back to their offices I could hear little things. I checked in at each door and everyone was excited to see the stockings. I mentioned that they might just find something in that stocking at some point. They asked, “Oh so we can put things in others’ stockings?”. I totally encouraged this and everyone felt it was a fun way to celebrate each other as we celebrate the gift of the Savior.
I hope you find ways to celebrate with your work friends, and classmates, celebrate childcare workers who take care of your children, teachers, etc. Make things fun, and find simple ways to say thank you. This season of Advent gives us pause to remember all those who help in our lives.
So, go ahead, and give some thought to something different, don’t just buy something from Amazon and have it shipped, take a moment to make something thoughtful. Or…better yet…simply buy a nice card and write a handwritten note of thanks.
Have a great day my friends, and remember, Father is always with us, he will never forsake us. Let us celebrate the amazing gift of His Son.
Matthew 2:11
And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.
