Forgiveness Starts in the Mirror

I come to this little blog often sharing words about forgiveness. We all know that Father has asked that we not only love others as He loved us, but He also asks us to forgive others as He forgives us. Let’s face it, we make mistakes, we disappoint, we screw up, simply put, we are human. Do you remember in the bible when Jesus tells the accusers of the woman, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her”. I believe the way that story ends is all of the accusers walk away.

Forgiving others isn’t always easy, however, I think sometimes forgiving ourselves is even more difficult. When you think about it though, don’t we have to start with what’s inside? How can we forgive others if we are unable to forgive ourselves? If we cannot look inside and offer the pain we feel for mistakes we’ve made to Father, then I believe we will struggle to forgive others when the time comes. Forgiveness begins by looking in the mirror I think. We have to be ok with ourselves, we have to love ourselves and know that we are imperfect. Loving ourselves starts with opening up to Father and asking Him to heal those wounds.

It’s easy to think sometimes that Father will not be able to forgive us. I have to admit, I’m not sure how He does it, I just know that He loves us more than we can ever know. He always wants us close to Him and wants to work through us. We simply need to open our hearts, let go of the pain, and yes ask Him to forgive us. Then…we need to forgive ourselves.

There will be difficult times in our lives my friends, Father never promised life would be easy. He did promise to always be with us, we just need to be open to seeing what is right before us. So if you’re carrying around a pain, lay it at the feet of Father, ask for forgiveness, and then, look in that mirror and say, “I forgive you”.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
