Yesterday I went to one of our local farmer’s markets. There is a particular booth there, a small farm, that is my favorite. The woman who owns it is so sweet, she just likes to “grow things”. Her veggies and herbs are always the best. I mean like you are washing the dirt and sand off the lettuce when you come home, that’s how fresh her items are. Yesterday was no different. The lettuce, tomatoes, and carrots, were super fresh and really tasty 🙂 .
As I made my way through the little bins on the table I turned to see the most incredible flowers, snapdragons. They were stunning colors and almost instantly I thought, “Oh ya, Spring is here!”. They were at that perfect stage too where they had beautiful petals and then many buds still to burst open. I grabbed a bunch to brighten up the foyer of our condo. I love fresh flowers around, inside and outside 🙂 . As I made my way to pay for my goodies, there was another batch of those amazing snapdragons, and, yep you guessed it, I added a second batch to the first.
I made my way through the rest of the market picking up a few more things here and there and then headed out. When I got home I carefully cleaned the snapdragons, trimming the ends and removing wilting leaves. As soon as I placed them on the table I knew I’d done the right thing in grabbing that second batch. They were beauts for sure and they almost instantly brightened the room.
Last night as I went to turn off the lights I noticed those flowers again. At this point, the flowers had enjoyed a major gulp of water and they were even more full and open than when I originally set them in place. Again they were just beautiful.
This morning as I sat down to write this little blog I realized how much like those snapdragons we are. We are beautiful, we can wilt at times, but given the right food and water, we will bloom brightly. Father gives us the nourishment that we need to grow and blossom, we just need to drink it all in. Once we’ve taken in that nourishment, we’re even brighter than before.
Enjoy your day my friends, take a little time to enjoy the beauty the Father gives us in the vegetation around us. Remember too, that beauty resides in each one of us as his children 🙂 .
p.s. special thanks to Allison Watts for her beautiful sunset pic, the cover of of today’s little blog.
Isaiah 61:11
For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up before all the nations.
