To God

I went outside yesterday for lunch. It was nice to take a break and enjoy the sunshine. I’m a little spoiled as sitting outside for lunch for me means sitting on our dock overlooking the water and an occasional boat that may come by.

As I ate lunch yesterday I noticed how active the water was. The fish were jumping all around our cove. Ok, now I was wishing I’d thrown my pole into the back of the truck when I left the house for work πŸ™‚ . Anyway, it was a very active time, which did kind of surprise me. When I got up to go back inside I strolled to the edge of the dock to look closer at the water. There was a school of little bait fish that had gathered which is really unusual where we are. All of a sudden out from under the dock came a decent-sized shark. “Woa, hello”, came out of my mouth without thinking. He was probably 5 – 6′ in length and he came up to the top of the water just enough for his fin to break the surface, then was back down again. Now that made for an interesting lunch!

As we left work yesterday I noticed the clouds rolling in. The forecast is calling for rain the next few days so it didn’t surprise me. We got home, changed and I made my way to the kitchen to make dinner. I glanced outside to the West and the sky was this beautiful orange. The sun was setting and the clouds around it were creating quite a color on the horizon. I was regretting not stopping at the beach to watch the sunset. Fast forward just two or three minutes, now the sky was an incredible fire red. It was literally breathtaking. The colors made me stop in my tracks and wander over to the dining room window for a better view. Unfortunately, the trees prevented a clear picture, but just the colors I could see told me enough, it was a stunning sunset.

My husband came up at that point. He had the drink I had made in his hand, along with his. He handed it to me and we “clinked” and he said, “To God, and the gift of this beautiful sky”. “To God”, I said.

Friends, we are so incredibly blessed with gifts that cost us nothing. The gift of a simple dock, water filled with wildlife, the gift of mountains with snow, the gift of incredible farmland, a sunrise, a sunset, they cost us nothing. Most importantly, Father gave us the gift of His Son. He paid the price for us.

This morning as you ready yourself for the day, take a moment to lift your coffee and give a toast “To God”. Thank Him for the many simple but priceless gifts He provides. Thank Him especially for the most precious gift, that of His Son. Have a great day my friends πŸ™‚ .

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that all who believe in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
