When Plans Shift

Well, I thank you all for your patience these past few days. We were scheduled to fly home on Monday from my husband’s class reunion in IL. Even though Hurricane Debby had passed by SW Florida and was no longer a threat, they canceled our return flight. No worries though, they rebooked us for Thursday, arriving back in Florida at 10:00 p.m. Well, that certainly wasn’t going to work.

I, like thousands of others, punched in the airline help number and began stating my case to the attendant at the other end of the line. Unfortunately, everything was booked solid. No matter what combination I tossed out from this airport to that airport, nope, no dice. Booked solid 😦 .

So, as my husband and I grabbed breakfast on Monday morning, we looked at the clock, pulled up the map app, and plugged in our home address. We were two hours north of our normal drive home from Illinois, but hey, we would still be home long before that Thursday evening plane. So, we finished breakfast, called the rental car company to change the drop-off day and location, and hit the road. Can I just say, shew, we are not as young as we used to be, especially to make the trip in just a one night stay, instead of two?

I phoned a dear friend in Nashville and as always, they graciously allowed us to stop there for the night. It was a quick catch-up, but so good to give them hugs. Back on the road early yesterday morning, and rolled in after midnight this morning.

I’m here, tired, but grateful to be home. These last few days have given me a little reflection. First, plans are going to change, whether you want them to or not. We are not in control, and we have to learn to adapt and overcome the obstacles and challenges tossed in our way. Second, the people you go through those challenges with will get you to the other side. My sweet husband and I had lots of windshield time, with great conversation, goofy humor, and a spontaneous hold of a hand. Our friends, they were there on a moment’s notice, and even more said to stop at their place if needed on the drive. Next, you are stronger than you think. Just when you think you want to quit, don’t just keep going to the end of that race. And finally, Father, He is sooo with us all of the time. He guided this return home, He kept us safe, with dare I say, through such unusually light traffic coming home. Even in the busiest of cities where we are normally stopped for hours, we scooted right through. He showed us beautiful mountains and valleys, green farming fields, and wildlife. Yes, Father, is always there and I’m so thankful for His protection as we drove.

So friends, when plans shift, take them in stride, pull up your bootstraps, and deal with it head-on. We’re a pretty strong lot we are, and together with Father, we will overcome whatever comes our way. Have a great day!

Continued prayers, sweet Emily Rea. A community of God’s children are lifting voices high sweet girl.

Philippians 4:19
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
