Opening and Closing Doors

I’ve shared here in previous little blogs that I have a close friend, a priest, who shares a scripture reading and morning reflection each day with me.  I’ve come to start my day with these, even before I have my morning chat with Father. I time things so that I can read the message from the previous day.

As I read the passages from God’s word and settle with my friend’s reflection, I realize countless times just how in control our Lord is. The timing of my friend’s little messages has not been lost on me, they seem to come when they are needed most.

Yesterday’s scripture was from John, the story of the royal official who sought out Jesus when he came to Cana. He begged Jesus to save his son.  Jesus told him to go to his son, that he would live.  The man believed and went to his son, who was made well. The official realized the timing of when he was healed to be the exact time Jesus had told him to go to his son.

My friend’s reflection on this story reminds us all that God is in control and that our belief, our faith in Him and His Son, will guide us through this life. As my friend says, “We can trust in Jesus to take care of us, our loved ones, and every problem that seems bigger than we are.”

I think this is why Father opens some doors for us and closes others.  He is truly guiding our path and showing us where He wants us to be.  It’s difficult at times when we don’t want doors to close on us, we want to keep doing what we doing, we’re comfortable.  It’s at those times when Father seems to stop in and close the door. Yet He always seems to open another door lighting the way of a different path.

My friend closed his reflection yesterday with this: “God still restores health and order to his children today through his grace, which we can access when we notice it at work in our lives and cooperate with it. We can imagine God’s grace like flowing water from the tap. The water is always there, ready to be poured out. In order to gather the grace, we have to hold a cup under the faucet and turn on the tap. This shows how we participate in God’s grace. We recognize it is there, open ourselves to its working in our lives, and then believe and trust in its power”.

Yes friends, as difficult as it might be at times, Father is in control.  It’s taken me a long time to totally surrender to that, and trust me there are days when I’m still stubborn. It gets easier each time I give it all over to Him though. Let Him be in control, after all, He’s the one who has the playbook 🙂 .

Have a great day friends.

Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose.
